Une soirée à l'Orchestre: Ravel


Join us for “Une Soirée à l'Orchestre”on Thursday, May 30!


The evening will begin at the Alliance française with a presentation "Ravel Demystified" by Benjamin D'Annibale (professional pianist and harpsichordist). The presentation will be provided with finger food and refreshments.

Afterwards, the evening will continue at Verizon Hall to attend Mitsuko Uschida Plays Ravel, a concert with the Philadelphia Orchestra.

*** Presentation aperçu ***

The presentation will be about the French composer, pianist and conductor Maurice Ravel, whose magnificent contribution to classical music is often associated with Impressionism. Our presenter, Benjamin D'Annibale, will also explore the famous Piano Concerto in G major, which he has played before. The presentation will be the perfect introduction to the concert and will allow you to appreciate the piece even more!


*** Who is Benjamin D'Annibale? ***

Benjamin D'Annibale is a pianist and harpsichordist based in Philadelphia. A graduate of the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg in Germany (M.M. Harpsichord) and Temple University (B.M. Piano Performance), he has had extensive training with a diversity of keyboard professors, and a special focus on baroque music and instruments. He also received a year of training at the Hochschule für Kirchenmusik Rottenburg, where he studied conducting and organ. He has given concerts in various corners of the USA, as well as areas of Germany and France. In addition to teaching and performing in the Philadelphia area, Benjamin is currently the collaborative pianist for the Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus; pianist for the University Choirs at Drexel University; and director of music at First Presbyterian Church in Flourtown, PA. A recent participant of the American Bach Soloists Academy in San Francisco, he also was recently a fellow at the Bach Institute at Emmanuel Music in Boston. This summer, he will assistant conduct and perform harpsichord for the American premiere of Nicola Porpora’s Polifemo with Opera Neo in San Diego.
