LE CLUB LECTURE 

Join Nicole Layseca to talk about Francophone Literature ! 

The Alliance launches its own book club from November to March ! One tuesday per month, join the Club de Lecture to discuss the book of the month priorly read by all the attendees. Exchange about your emotions, opinions with the other members and get the opportunity to expand your literary culture and to improve your French! 

*** BOOK OF THE MONTH ***  

• Mémoire d'un rat de Pierre Chaine - 192 pages

In the manner of many First World War soldiers, the French playwright Pierre Chaine put his experience into a book, but using an original point of view. Indeed, the narrator is a rat called Ferdinand, describing through his eyes the soldiers life. The waiting on the frontline, the disappointing furloughs or the fights violence are observed by hindsight and witch causticity by the endearing rodent. A one of a kind way to discover 14-18 war literature ! 

A l’instar de nombreux soldats ayant combattu pendant la Première Guerre mondiale, le dramaturge français Pierre Chaine a consigné son expérience dans un livre, mais en utilisant un angle pour le moins original ! En effet, le narrateur est un rat nommé Ferdinand qui raconte à travers ses yeux la vie des poilus. L’attente au front, les permissions décevantes ou encore la violence des combats sont observées avec recul et causticité par ce rongeur attachant. Une manière inédite de découvrir la guerre de 14-18.

The promotion of francophone literature is definitely at the heart of the Alliance’s commitment, as it is a wonderful opportunity to account for the richness and the diversity of the French language as well as the multiple cultural influences attached to Francophonie. Also, it is always a great way to improve one’s French reading comprehension !
