Af member Bill Craig will share anecdotes and impressions plus photos from his upcoming trip to this remote collectivité française d'outre-mer. A small archipelago just off the coast of Newfoundland, Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon is notable for its stunning maritime and Nordic landscapes, its Basque, Breton & Norman roots that are palpable to this day and, until the Grand Banks fishery collapsed in the 1990s, cod fishing. Bill will be there in mid-August during the annual Fête Basque, a particularly animated week during which a variety of festivities happen including a big meal featuring a traditional cuisine such la piperade, folk dancing and games of pelota (Basque handball). Come find out a little about this special place où la France rencontre l'Amérique. This is not Québec ... this is France!
