GENERAL INFORMATION & SCHEDULES

Alliance Française de Philadelphie offers French classes all year round.  We have four 10-week sessions per year during fall, winter, spring, & summer.

Our general French classes meet once a week for 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on class size and the level of classes ranges from A1 to C2. We limit the number of students in our classes to 8 students maximum. 

We currently offer online and in-person classes, taught by highly qualified French instructors.

SPECIALIZED CLASSES - SPRING 2025


L’évolution du personnage féminin français pendant la 2nde Guerre Mondiale dans le film Hiroshima mon amour (1959)

Hiroshima mon amour est un excellent exemple du film classique en noir et blanc de la Nouvelle Vague en France, écrit par Marguerite Duras (1914-1996). Situé à Hiroshima au Japon suite à l’impensable; le bombardement atomique de cette ville par les États-Unis, le film aborde l’évolution psychologique d’une jeune femme. Il suit sa vie amoureuse mystérieuse et interdite en premier lieu avec un Allemand en France et ensuite avec un architecte japonaise marié au Japon.

Dans cet atelier de cinq semaines sur Zoom, joignez prof. Claudia Brown et découvrez l'évolution du personnage féminin français pendant la seconde guerre mondiale à travers le film Hiroshima mon amour.

Alliance Française de Philadelphie is an official examination center for the DELF/DALF since 2020 and we are thrilled to offer preparation courses to help our candidates succeed!

France is very famous for its magnificent, original, and unusual castles. Gigi Kuhn will share a creative selection by historical and architectural style, offering a unique experience through different eras of French history. Students will discover the many styles of famous French castles in various regions and present their favorite style in the final class. Travel virtually to discover castle treasures in France!

REGISTRATION PROCESS

Registration for the Spring session will start on February 3rd, 2025.

NEW STUDENTS - We require all prospective students with previous experience studying French or living in a French speaking country to take a placement test over the phone to determine their appropriate level before registering.

We are now accepting placement test requests for the Spring Session 2025.

The placement test takes between 15-20 minutes to complete.
One of our professors will contact you directly for a quick conversation in French. They will then let you know your level and schedule options for your course.

All classes open upon enrollment. I understand that to be eligible for a refund, I must contact the office at least 24 hours before the first class. After the first class, only a credit for the next session will be issued (a $30.00 cancellation fee plus $35.00 per class is retained by the Alliance Francaise). No credit after the end of the 3rd week of classes.
A late registration fee will be applied to registrations made after the end of the first week of classes.

 for a 10-week session (material not included) - price of course materials depends on course level. Enrollment is contingent upon advanced payment for course and materials. To be eligible for a refund, students must contact the office at least 24 hours before the first class. After the first class, only a credit for the next session will be issued (a $30.00 cancellation fee plus $35.00 per class is retained by the Alliance Française).

No credit is issued after the end of the 3rd week of classes.
